Kiosk & EV Charging Station Manufacturing in Taiwan

Self-service kiosks and EV charge points are large, mains-powered machines built for public use — often outdoors, in weather and direct sun. Essen manages full box-build assembly of kiosk and charge-point hardware in Taiwan: enclosure, display, PCBA, and harnessing integrated and functionally tested under one accountable program. Built to your documentation, tested to agreed Go/No-Go criteria, delivered DDP to your US dock.

What this category demands

The build requirements that come with the product.

What this kind of hardware asks of an assembly, and how each demand is answered.

01

Large outdoor enclosures

Self-service kiosk enclosure work means large sheet-metal structures with die-cast or molded components with powder-coat or anodized finishes. Essen sources fabrication through vetted Taiwanese partners and manages fit-up, hardware, and incoming inspection as part of the box build.

02

IP-rated sealing

Outdoor fronts and doors depend on gaskets that actually seal. Essen quotes gasketed assemblies to IP65, IP67, or IP68 targets, with the target rating agreed in writing before production starts.

03

Readable in direct sun

Big-format TFT displays with PCAP touch are integrated behind the front glass using air-gap mounting. High-brightness display options and AG/AR/AF coatings are specified for outdoor readability.

04

Mains and signal, kept apart

Charge points and kiosks route mains power beside low-voltage signal and data. Harnesses are built to IPC/WHMA-A-620 and routed to your drawings, with power and signal separation exactly as specified.

05

Thermal hardware, assembled to your design

Fans, filters, and baffles are installed per your thermal design and drawings. Essen builds the airflow path you engineered; it does not redesign it.

06

Payment modules mounted, not certified

Card readers, printers, and telemetry modules mount to your specification and cable into the harness plan. PCI and EMV certification stays with the payment vendor and with you as the OEM; Essen's scope is mechanical integration, cabling, and functional checks against agreed criteria.

Why many kiosk and charge-point OEMs are re-quoting in Taiwan

Kiosk manufacturing and EV charging station manufacturing share a supply profile: a fabricated cabinet, a display and touch stack, one or more PCBAs, a heavy internal harness set, and a list of mounted peripherals. Much of that supply — particularly enclosure fabrication and final integration — has concentrated in China. For US-bound hardware, that concentration now carries tariff exposure and single-country risk, and the Taiwan-origin tariff picture is a large part of why many OEMs are re-quoting these builds.

Taiwan's electronics ecosystem covers the core subsystems these products need: sheet-metal and die-cast fabrication with powder-coat and anodize finishing, TFT and PCAP display sourcing, PCB assembly to IPC-A-610 Class 2, and wire harness build to IPC/WHMA-A-620 — all within one region. Essen manages kiosk assembly and EV charger assembly across its own team and vetted specialist partner facilities, and stays accountable for the finished unit. Our production facilities in Taiwan operate under ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems.

How a kiosk or charger build runs

Every program starts with a DFM review before commitment: enclosure drawings, display stack, harness routing, and test plan are reviewed — and questions raised — before anything is quoted as buildable. The BOM is locked at a named revision, and nothing is substituted without written change notice. Turnkey, consigned, and split-BOM sourcing are all supported under the box-build service.

In production, sourced components pass IQC before assembly. Units are built under ESD-safe handling with torque-controlled fastening for structural and electrical hardware. Cable assemblies are built to IPC/WHMA-A-620 as defined subassemblies before final integration. Your firmware is loaded during production and remains your IP, and each unit is serialized for traceability.

Functional test is Go/No-Go against criteria agreed in writing — power-up, display and touch function, peripheral communication, whatever your acceptance spec defines. Outgoing QC samples to AQL. See functional testing and the quality system for how criteria and sampling are set.

Freight and serviceability are part of the spec

A kiosk or charge point is heavy freight with a glass front. Packaging is engineered per unit — crating, foam and corner protection, palletization — so the unit that passed functional test is the unit that arrives. Shipments run DDP to your US dock, with customs and duty handled before delivery; fulfillment covers the packaging and logistics scope.

Serviceability hardware is assembled with the same discipline as everything else: hinged doors and locks fitted per drawing, cable service loops left to spec so field technicians can swap readers and modules without rework. If your kiosk or charge-point build is concentrated in one country, send the RFQ package — drawings, BOM, and test spec — and get a DFM review back before you commit.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do you own the enclosure fabrication?

No. Essen manages and is accountable for production across its own team and vetted specialist partner facilities in Taiwan. Sheet-metal and die-cast enclosure work runs through fabrication partners; Essen handles DFM review, incoming inspection, integration, and final test under one program.

Can you certify our payment hardware?

No. PCI and EMV certification belongs to the payment module vendor and to you as the OEM. Essen mounts readers and peripherals to your specification, cables them, and verifies function against Go/No-Go criteria agreed in writing.

Do you optically bond the display?

No. Displays are integrated with air-gap mounting behind the front glass. Outdoor readability is handled through high-brightness display options and AG/AR/AF coating selection, settled during the design review.

What ingress protection can you build to?

Gasketed assemblies are quoted to IP65, IP67, or IP68 targets depending on the enclosure and front design. The target rating is agreed in writing as part of the build specification.

How do finished units ship to the US?

Packaged and palletized to an engineered packaging spec, then shipped DDP — freight, customs, and duty are handled before delivery, and you receive units at your dock. Commercial terms are USD, Net-30.

Send the data package.

Gerbers or ODB++, the BOM, STEP files for the enclosure, and your test requirements — or whatever stage your files are at. Written DFM feedback comes back before you commit to anything.
